TRC-20 vs ERC-20: Which USDT Network Should You Use?
The same USDT can travel on different networks — and the one you pick affects speed and cost. Here is how to choose the right one every time.
USDT is not tied to a single blockchain. The very same digital dollar can move across several networks, and the two you will encounter most often are TRC-20 (on Tron) and ERC-20 (on Ethereum). Choosing between them comes down to two things: cost and compatibility.
TRC-20 (Tron)
TRC-20 is known for very low network fees and fast confirmations. That makes it a popular choice for everyday transfers, especially smaller amounts where a high fee would eat into the value being sent.
ERC-20 (Ethereum)
ERC-20 runs on Ethereum, the most widely supported network in crypto. It is integrated with the broadest range of services and exchanges, but network fees can be higher and vary with congestion. It is often the right choice when the receiving service specifically requires Ethereum.
The one rule you must never break
The network you send on must match the network of the receiving address. Sending TRC-20 USDT to an address that only supports ERC-20 (or vice versa) can result in permanently lost funds. Always confirm the network before you withdraw.
- Sending a small everyday amount? TRC-20 usually costs less.
- The recipient told you to use a specific network? Use exactly that one.
- Unsure? Ask the recipient which network their address supports before sending.
Peace Wallet supports both TRC-20 and ERC-20 and always shows you the network and the exact fee before you confirm a withdrawal — so you can choose with confidence.
